First Steps After Becoming a Victim of Online Fraud
How to properly secure digital evidence and report online fraud to the authorities.
Victims are advised to immediately gather evidence such as screenshots of conversations, proof of fund transfers, and the perpetrator's account details before this evidence is lost or deleted.
A report can be filed at the nearest police station, based on the fraud provisions in the National Criminal Code (Law No. 1 of 2023) as well as the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). A lawyer can help draft the police report and assist with civil recovery efforts to reclaim the loss.
